Genentech and Roche Begin Construction of New Manufacturing Site in North Carolina
Tuesday, August 26, 2025
Genentech, part of the Roche Group, has started construction of a major manufacturing facility in Holly Springs, North Carolina.
This will be the company’s first manufacturing site on the East Coast of the United States.
The new facility, covering around 700,000 square feet, will focus on producing medicines for metabolic conditions, including future treatments for obesity. The development is expected to create over 400 permanent roles once operational, along with around 1,500 construction jobs during the building phase. Genentech’s initial investment is valued at more than USD 700 million and forms part of Roche’s wider commitment to strengthening manufacturing, infrastructure and research in the U.S.
Holly Springs was chosen for its strong base of skilled workers, academic institutions and proximity to leading life science organisations in the Raleigh-Durham area.
Designed with efficiency and sustainability in mind, it will enhance supply resilience and support future production needs. The 100-acre site also provides room for further expansion.
The site, expected to be operational by 2029, will include advanced biomanufacturing technologies, automation and digital systems.
