Eli Lilly Japan and Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma Corporation Announce New Launch of Mounjaro® 7.5 mg /10 mg /12.5 mg /15 mg Ateos®
Monday, June 12, 2023
Eli Lilly Japan and Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma Corporation announced that “Mounjaro® subcutaneous injection 7.5 mg /10 mg /12.5 mg /15 mg ATEOS®” (Nonproprietary name: Tirzepatide, hereinafter referred called “Mounjaro”), the following sustained release GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonists, was launched in Japan.
Mounjaro® is a unique medication that combines the properties of both GIP (glucose-dependant insulinotropic polypeptide) and GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) receptor agonists.
Mounjaro® is a medication that is administered once weekly by subcutaneous injection using a single-use autoinjector device called ATEOS. The autoinjector device is equipped with a pre-installed needle, and the injection process is automated.
Mounjaro® is a sustained-release GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonist, and it is available in different strengths: 7.5 mg, 10 mg, 12.5 mg, and 15 mg. This lineup of Mounjaro® provides options for different dosages to suit individual patient needs.
By selectively targeting and activating these receptors, Mounjaro® is designed to improve blood glucose levels. The sustained-release formulation of the medication ensures that its effects last for an extended period, providing a prolonged action to help regulate blood glucose over time.
To administer Mounjaro®, the patient places the autoinjector against their skin and presses the injection button. The needle is automatically inserted under the skin, and a single dose of the filled drug is injected. The patient does not need to set the dose or handle the needle manually, as the device takes care of these steps.
