An LC/MS/MS Method to Analyze Aristolochic Acid in Traditional Chinese Medicine

Aristolochic acids are a group of nitrophenanthrene carboxylic acids that are associated with renal toxicity and carcinogenicity. However, some plants containing aristolochic acids have been applied for decades to treat a variety of symptoms and diseases, such as arthritis, gout, and inflammation. Aristolochic acids are found in many types of plants known as aristolochia (birthworts or pipevines) and some types of plants known as asarum (Asari Radix et Rhizoma).
