ACG Customized Packaging

The present case study describes how a leading pharmaceutical company in Myanmar developed a differentiated packaging for one of its injectible products. The company wanted to pack a glass vial (containing lyophilized product) with a cluster ampoule (containging water for injection) in a single blister foil.

Generally, the vials and ampoule strips are packaged seperately. The differentiated packaging was aimed at improving healthcare personnels' convenience for preparing the dose and administering it to patients.

Challenges

  • Pack a glass vial with a cluster ampoule into a single blister pack
  • Attain a blister cavity depth of 28 mm
  • Seal the blister pack and a pre-folded leaflet into a single carton

ACG Solution

The customer's packaging requirements were analyzed, and ACG's team of experts decided to integrate one of their blister packaging and cartoning machines to provide an end-to-end line solution. Several modifications were made to the machines to meet the specific packaging requirements.

With the use of transfer systems for cluster ampoules and glass vials backed by star wheels, the machine was able to transfer both the units smoothly to the formed web.

The 28-mm rotary drum facilitated the packaging of the cluster ampoule and the vial together into a single blister pack
